Sandra R. Coulson, BA, COM Certified Orofacial Myologist
Sandra R. Coulson received her Bachelor of Arts degree
in Speech Therapy and Education from the University of Northern Colorado
in Greeley, Colorado. During her career, she pursued research on Down
Syndrome under the famous Bobaths from England. Ms. Coulson holds
Certification from the International Association of Orofacial Myology
and has been engaged in the field of Orofacial Myology for over 35
years.
Ms. Coulson presently serves as Chair of the Board of
Examiners for the International Association of Orofacial Myology.
She is President-elect of the International Association of Orofacial
Myology and will begin her term in June of 2005. She is extremely
active in the pursuit of innovative protocols and practical methodologies
designed to move the profession forward, including graduate studies
in orthodontic, dental, speech and physical therapy. She attended
such well-recognized institutions as the University of Washington,
Western Washington State University, Pacific Lutheran University,
Colorado Sate University, the University of Hawaii and many others.
She also taught at the Community College of Denver for two years and
has lectured at Dental Associations, Physician Associations and Dental
Hygiene Associations since 1970, an effort that continues today.
Her work with other professionals in the areas of Sleep
Apnea and related research includes editing and co-authorship of educational
information for the professional community. A sought after speaker,
Ms. Coulson is known for her effective communications both in person
and on-air.
Ms. Coulson's private Orofacial Myology practice has
specialized in the evaluation and treatment of oral motor and oral
myofunctional disorders in the greater Denver area for the past 35
years. An extremely committed community citizen, she has been a member
of numerous care and support organizations including Colorado Down
Syndrome Association, the National Essential Tremor Association,
Colorado Post-Polio Association, Mental Health Association of Colorado,
Denver Academy for Dental Education, and many others. Ms. Coulson
has served on the Board of the National Association of Women Business
Owners and currently serves on the board of Heritage College and as
an advisor to a number of professional care organizations.
Ms. Coulson has been recognized nationally for her devotion
to her profession and for her charitable interests. She has been recognized
by Who's Who in the West, Who's Who World Wide and Who's Who CD-ROM.
She has received the National Foundation for Dentistry for the Handicapped
Award, the Metropolitan Denver Dental Society Clinical Presentation
Award, the United States Air Force Commander's Certificate of Appreciation,
Women of the West Symposium Award and was nominated for the Blue Chip
Enterprise Initiative.
